php requirements?

since last week, my webhoster updated his systems from php 5.2 to 5.3. Since then my site is still working without problems, but i cannot reach the backend (private) part.
I keep getting 503 server error messages.
It seems I'm not the only one with those errors. (
It's possible to fallback to 5.2, but before I do this, I would like to know if there are some configuration settings which have to change? Or if it's a known problem. I had a quick look in the bugtracker, but since i'm not really used to it, i couldn't find anything that helped me.

Any suggestions?

Jan, 503 means Service unavailble or gateway timeout. I don't think it has anything to do with PHP.
    Did you check the error-logs?

Jan, try removing the following lines from your .htaccess (in default_www).

    Options -Indexes
    Options +FollowSymlinks

Most likely the server does not allow those settings.

@Tijs, no access to the error-logs @Dieter no, didn't help.

On the webhoster support forum, I see there are a lot of people with the same errors (with different CMS) after their update.
I've also opened a support ticket with them.

@Jan: do you have a php-info file available?

@Jan: Can't see anything special in the php-info, can you ask for the error-logs?

    @Tijs: I've asked, we'll wait and see, but I don't expect a lot.

@tijs when I try , it jumps to the nl. Also with 'backend' url I'm getting the same error messages: I receive the login screen, but after login, I get the 503 error. I've looked in the mysql-table and saw that after login, a user-session has been created. When I deleted it manually and did a re-login, a new session was there, but still the 503 error also.

@Jan: is the site in debug-mode? If not: can you enable it, maybe it will output a notice/fatal/...

yes, it was in debug mode last week, i suppose it's not changed.
But I didn't receive any notice.

@Jan: is there any possibilty that you give us FTP/SSH-access so we can have a look? If that is an option you can send them to [email blocked]

@Jan: the bug is fixed, see your mail. For all people who have a similar issue: check which version of PHP 5.3 you're using. In 5.3.2 (which Jan is using) there is a memory_leak when calling method_exists with a closure as an argument (see:

Possble fix (untested): instead of using method_exist use is_callable.

@Tijs can you tell me where you did the fix? I installed the latest Fork version and now I have the same problem again. When I know what to fix I can do it myself for the next updates.

Jan, search for method_exists and replace it with is_callable
