Blogs for different purposes

I was thinking of using one instance of the blog module for different purposes. Wondered if anyone could tell me if this is possible.

So what I have is

a news section
2 case study sections

I was wondering if I could filter the result in the widget article lists by category. so in the news section it only shows all the recent/archived/dated articles in the news category?

and the same for the different types of case studies.

Or am I going to have to duplicate the blog module 3 times and re-name it?

Cheers
Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

at the moment, that isn't in the core blog-module.

But I've recently had the same problem and added some widgets to only get the articles by a certain category.

If you'd like this, I'll put the solution on github.

    Hi Andrew,

    repo "deslooverej/forkcms", branch "blog_categories".

Replace your existing blog module (backend + frontend) by the one in the repo above.

To test: add a new category and then go to a page and edit the template, now you have a new widget: "blog > widgets > category:'name' "

Strange, I've downloaded the repo, and replaced the following, but still don't see any difference :S

    default_www/backend/modules/blog

    and

    default_www/frontend/modules/blog

I get an error when trying to add a new category

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 261900 bytes) in /library/spoon/filter/filter.php on line 640

Did you try adding a new category, then adding a blog-post to the new category.

+ connect the "blog widget > new category" to the template

    If that doesn't work:
my blog module has added an extra_id field to "blog_categories".

I can't now add a category. I get this error

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 261900 bytes) in /library/spoon/filter/filter.php on line 640

I've added the field extra_id in the DB

and these are the only option in the template I get

OK I've managed to get it working and posting new categories. The only issue now is in the main website, when I click on a link its sends me to a 404 page??

All blog links including categories and latest articles goto... localhost:8888/404/what ever the page name is

Is there something I might have missed?

The blog has to be connected to a page. Is this done?

OK I've got it working now. Thanks so much for the widget and for your help. And sorry for being a bit of a novice. I was having all kinds of troubles switching things from different machines :)

Slight bug tho. I have a news section. I attach the blog to the news page, listing out all the articles in the news category. this works fine, however when I click on a link, the link directs me to a 404 page. The url it gives is http://localhost:8888/404/News-article-title

Do you know what this might be? I thought it might be that the category name was the same as the template, or the page so I made sure they were all different but still no joy. All the links from the blog are fixed with the folder 404.

    Any help is appreciated,

    cheers Andrew

    No problem.

Well I think that the problem is the connection of the blog module to a page.
Try editing the blog page and selecting the "act like a module" setting under the "settings" tab.

I'm glad that you liked the solution. I hope they will integrate this into the core blog-module...

Jeroen, Andrew. Sorry for the late response, but should be fixed in the 3.0.0-release.
