When a website has multiple languages, without a "language choose page",
and visiting it with the default language,
it is better for SEO that the domain is the root url.

Example:

Languages possible:
nl, fr, en, de, ru, ch, ...

Default language:
nl

When visiting http://www.website.be/ (and detecting no other browser language than "nl", when enabled in Fork),
don't do the redirect to http://www.website.be/nl/, but keep the root url http://www.website.be/.

Advantages:

  • This is better for SEO (root url will rank better).

  • No redirect to default language required.

Need a real life example: visit http://www.apple.com/.

    Jeroen,
This would be somewhat like a major rewrite of the code. And is this based on hard facts?
Because the language is detected and a 301-redirect is used, I can't see any reasons why it wouldn't rank just as good, but I'm not an SEO-export.
But BSeen, a SEO-company reviewed Fork (before and after the merge with Netlash) so I think they would have mentioned this already.
